The Museum is located in the house that was home of Gregori Maians i Ciscar (1699-1781) and his family during his 28 years of residence in his hometown (1739-1767). Rehabilitated in 1988 as a culture house, since 1999, it is the headquarter of el Museu Valencià de la Il•lustració i la Modernitat (MuVIM), in Oliva.

The visit to the Museum starts with an audiovisual about the figure of Maians and his intellectual career in the framework of the historical illustration in Valencian and Spanish lands. It is on the main floor where the permanent exhibition about the daily life in the 18th century takes place, organized from historical and facsimile materials, in which the material conditions in the life of the Maians family are recreated: the main alcove, the children’s bedrooms, the kitchen, the dining room and the library of the scholar.

Among the many pieces exhibited the portraits of En Gregori stad out and one of his brothers -Manuel Maians-, both from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The exceptional recreation of the domestic sphere of the time, coupled with the preservation of the original architecture of the house, is a reference to better understand the task of defense of criticism and the struggle for freedom of thought that Gregori carried out since his retirement in Oliva.
