It consists of two parts, on one hand the sanctuary of la Verge del Puig, on the other el monestir mercedari (the monastery of the mercedarian order).
It dominates the entrance of Valencia from the municipality, to the east of the city centre. It has parking area.

The importance of this site has been included in l’Estatut d’Autonomia of Valencia, which recognizes its value and its special protection. It is part of the configuration of our territory since the Christian conquest and according to the legend it is responsible for the current name of la Vall d’Alfàndech, known as Valldigna now.
Monastery of Santa Maria de la Valldigna: In the east of the town on a hill, this monastery is built, founded by the Cistercian order and located in the municipality of Simat de la Valldigna. This building consists of two parts, on one hand, the sanctuary of la Verge del Puig, on the other, the mercedarian monastery founded in the 13th century with further interventions after the 16th and 18th centuries.
These parts form a rectangular set with four towers in the corners. The church, in Gothic style, has three large naves, the central chapel, the lateral chapels and the heart at the feet. The ship is divided into five sections by arches among which the groin vaults are developed. The tallest height of the central nave allows the opening of windows that illuminate the church. The church originally had the facade on its feet; In the 14th century it was placed on the side and nowadays it is found in one of the facades of the complex. It is a gothic facade with three archivolts on thin columns (Source: Conselleria de Cultura i Esport, 2009).
